SF raise concerns about helicopter activitiy

A SINN Féin delegation today met with the Northern Ireland Office to raise concerns about excessive British Army helicopter activity across South Derry.

Magherafelt councillor Ian Milne said: "Increasing British army helicopter activity is hardly the way forward.

"A lot of this activity takes place at night and is a worry, particularly to farmers and families with young children.

"People want to be able to live in a normal society and I have also raised with the NIO issues in relation to the implementation of the Patton report on Policing.

"I particularly highlighted Bellaghy Police Station as an example, of a fortress-type building, which is a blight on the local community.

"It would appear that the areas which have suffered the most over the years at the hands of the British military are the areas where the British are dragging their feet on and doing the least to gain the confidence of the people."
