Sunnyside Association supporting residents through good relations

THE Sunnyside Estate Community Association in Maghera has been a hub of activity recently as the Association has been assembling for training qualifications in Good Relations and Community work.
The group seeks to use these tools to support the Estate’s residents and youth with their work.
The Association proudly completed their training last week, with the support of the building relationships in communities programme (bric), implemented in partnership by the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council, the Housing Executive and TIDES training, and funded by the European Union’s Peace III Programme. Author of ‘The Macedonian Covenant’, local historian and Association member, Joseph McCoy, said: “The Association has been thrilled by the interest and support shown by our local residents who have come together to learn more about community relations.”
“Now that we’ve completed our accredited training, the Association will be reflecting on what we’ve learned. Our next step is to work with our local residents to create a Good Relation’s Plan for the estate which we hope will support Sunnyside’s residents through some new initiatives.” The Association is also hopeful that the plan will also assist them to engage more positively with the wider communities of Maghera as well.”
“To date, we have had fantastic support from our local residents and the Magherafelt Youth Office, and working with the bric programme we are looking forward to new opportunities to continue and improve on our work for Sunnyside’s residents.”

This next stage of the bric programme will assist the Association and Sunnyside’s residents to plan their way forward to achieve their goals of creating neighbourliness and inclusiveness in all aspects of community life, both within and outside of the Estate.” “The bric programme has created a fun, educational and inclusive environment which has been embraced by the local residents.
