Tourist Board challenged over the lack of Tyrone advertising

Cáthal Mallaghan

DEAR Editor

I am writing to you to highlight the problem that the Northern Ireland Tourist Board has created for the tourism industry in Co. Tyrone.

My argument is based on an article published on Thursday April 3rd, the journalist Adrian Mullan has discovered that NITB has spent a substantial amount of money advertising in the Dublin based papers.

They have included 28 individual attractions in Northern Ireland including the Giants Causeway, the Mourne Mountains, Lisburns Caf Culture plus many more. However they failed to mention any of the outstanding visitor attractions within the county of Tyrone. They didn’t mention the North’s most successful tourism attraction, The Ulster American Folk Park.

They also forgot to mention the Sperrins and Castle Hill in Dungannon. The High Seat of the Earls of Tyrone.

So as you can imagine from this brief background to this story, Tyrone has lost a huge amount. If a few of our attractions had have been mentioned this would not only benefited them but also all the shops, pubs, restaurants and accommodation providers.

As you are the editor of the Mid-Ulster Mail, we feel it is your responsibility to Stand Up for Tyrone and call on Alan Clarke from NITB to give a full and honest report to the rates and tax payers as to why Tyrone has been ignored. If the advertisement had have been equally divided among all the counties in the North, Tyrone would have had at least 4 attractions listed.

Please act now. The men and women of the Tourism Industry in Tyrone need your help to high light our beautiful County.
