Tyrone Girl set to impress at West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK
A COUNTY Tyrone milliner and accessory designer is getting ready for her debut appearance at this season’s hotly anticipated Belfast FASHIONWEEK. Leonora Ferguson will be joining other big brand names in fashion including George at ASDA, the OUTLET, Banbridge, CastleCourt, Oasis and French Connection and will be showcasing her unique designs on the catwalk as part of the popular designer catwalk show on Friday, 22nd March.
Leonora will be in good company as her pieces will grace the runway alongside other top Northern Irish designers such as Una Rodden, Ruedi Maguire and Grainne Maher.
This season’s event will take place from 21-24 March across various venues in Belfast with the key catwalk shows moving to the exciting new home at the iconic Ulster Museum in Botanic Gardens.
The contemporary and minimalist atrium at the historic building will be transformed into a fashion haven as hundreds of fashion fans gather in March to celebrate all things style.
Having trained at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Leonora’s career has gone from strength to strength with her impressive CV boasting Universal Studios, HBO and Madame Tussauds as just some of her previous well-known clients.
Her pieces are handmade, one-of-a kind master pieces and are sure to put a unique twist on this season’s show.
Leonora is delighted to be showcasing her new SS13 collection to audiences this March.
She said: “I’m thrilled to be taking part in Belfast FASHIONWEEK for the very first time.
“I’ve always enjoyed attending FASHIONWEEK and have spent many a season there watching other designers showcase their work and I’m just so happy that I’m now doing it. The timing just felt right to show my pieces off to the world!”
And what can we expect to see from Leonora’s unique range?
“The new collection focuses on sleek form and sizzling colour,” she explained.
“I’ve really tried to integrate softer tones which are set off by vibrant highlights and strong colours glowing against black.
“There are lots of digitally printed silk scarves which are imbued with intricate patterns, while co-ordinating hats may take on modern abstract shapes, 1920s details and shimmer with feathers and glittering crystals,” added the young designer.
Director of FASHIONWEEK, Cathy Martin is delighted with Leonora’s involvement and commented: “Early in my career, when I worked in the Irish Linen industry I was lucky enough to work closely with many designers including John Rocha, Roland Mouret, Betty Jackson and Nicole Farhi in the UK and Ireland as well as Ralph Lauren and Liz Claiborne in the US, Yohji Yamamoto in Japan and even Armani and Versace in Italy.
“When I first started Belfast FASHIONWEEK nine years ago, it was really important to me to endorse our local designers.
“We have such talent here and I love that FASHIONWEEK offers that platform for our home-grown talent to display their creativity and share their work with the audience.”
