Christmas was launched in spectacular style in Maghera this year with the Christmas Festival taking place last week.

There was plenty of family entertainment throughout the day with children’s workshops including: Cupcake Decorating, Christmas Hearts, 3 Wise Men Puppets, Christmas Craft, Selfie Corner, Face Painting, Balloon Modelling and Christmas Character Walkabouts.

Music and entertainment were provided by Curragh Silver Band, The Link Community Centre and Louie the Entertainer (Children’s Comedian) throughout the day.

There was also a treasure hunt around the town centre, prize draws sponsored by the local businesses, and an Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds for the Special Olympics.

The hub of the festival was on the Coleraine Road where the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council and Santa turned on the lights. Then the Lantern Walk took place in the Walled Garden followed by Story Telling and Hot Chocolate in the Lurach Centre.
