THE Magherafelt based Conway Group has announced a £2.5 million expansion plan for a care home in Coleraine.

The north-west has been handed a timely jobs boost with the news that 30 new positions are to be created at The Cottage as part of the project.

The Cottage is a well-established care home that currently provides high quality care for 41 residents with general nursing requirements.

New works will focus on better provision for clients with nursing and dementia needs. Alongside high quality nursing care, the team will now be better placed to provide the specialist dementia care that is needed by families in the region.

Jarlath Conway, Conway Group Director said the new extension will allow them to provide a further 27 placements which will be tailored for the needs of individuals with general nursing and also dementia nursing needs.

“The Conway Group has significant experience in the design and construction of facilities for older adults and people requiring dementia care. We continue to work closely with the University of Stirling who are nationally recognised for setting the standard for dementia-friendly buildings,” he said.

The project will include an ergonomically dementia friendly design, furnished to give a warm, homely and safe environment for residents. The design includes access to a sensory garden together with a range of dayrooms and dining facilities for residents to enjoy with their families.

Mr Conway said the new extension will allow them to expand upon the services they currently offer.

“We recognise that families want to be close to their loved ones. We hope that this new modern facility will provide them with the quality, choice and reassurance that the community needs,” he added.

The Cottage Care Home is one of seven owned and operated by Conway Group Healthcare which has been delivering nursing and residential healthcare for more than 20 years. The project is due for completion in December 2013.

From its Head Office in Magherafelt, the Conway Group has evolved into a multi-faceted organisation, with expertise in the property, construction, and healthcare fields.
