Magherafelt resurfacing work ‘good news’

THE Ulster Unionist Party’s Mid-Ulster MLA Sandra Overend has welcomed confirmation of the commencement date for a major resurfacing and reconstruction scheme for Queens Avenue, Kirk Avenue and Kirk Lane in Magherafelt, by her party colleague, Roads Minister Danny Kennedy MLA.

“I have received confirmation from my Ulster Unionist colleague, Danny Kennedy, Minister for the Department of Regional Development, that resurfacing work on Queens Avenue, Magherafelt is now scheduled to commence on Monday, May 27,” she said.

“Kirk Lane is to be reconstructed beginning on Sunday June 9 through to Monday June 10, with final resurfacing to begin on Monday June 17 and lasting no longer than two days. I very much welcome this prioritisation of Magherafelt within his plans.

“This scheme, costing in the region of £150,000, will bring about a real improvement to the area and is good news both for local residents in the area and motorists in the District.

“The Queen’s Avenue section of road has proved problematic in recent times, especially as this is a feeder road to the recently upgraded Greenvale Leisure centre. The traffic going to the leisure centre in conjunction with local residents traffic will well know of the state of the road and will very much welcome this announcement.

“I would also therefore take the opportunity to urge road users to be patient while this work is on-going to ensure the safety of pedestrians, road users, and Roads Service contractors.”
