Mr McCrea said as a member of the all-party Assembly group on Autism for a number of years now, he is acutely aware of the difficulties and challenges many families dealing with autism have to face with on a daily basis.

He said it was clear that autism has a much broader spectrum and should involve the support of other government departments and not just the Health Department.

“The cross-departmental strategy announced recently will aid in bringing other departments closer together and help deliver better services were it counts for families dealing with autism,” he said.

And the MLA added: “I would like to put on record my appreciation to the working group assembled to develop this strategy and especially I would like to thank Arlene Cassidy, Chief Executive, Autism NI as well as other autism charities for their dedication to this worthy work.”
