FAST food giant McDonald’s say they have no plans to open an outlet in the Magherafelt area.
Speculation has been rife that the world famous franchise was poised to open on a site at King Street in the South Derry town.
But a spokesperson for the company has ruled this out.
“I can confirm that we are not currently looking to build a new restaurant in Magherafelt and that this is just a rumour,” he said.
“However, we are always looking for opportunities to invest in new locations and are open to hear suggestions for potential sites.”
The company had also been linked to a site at Castledawson Road, near the roundabout and a stone’s throw from the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.
Plans for the proposed building were submitted to the Planning Office back in January but have been turned down on planning grounds on two occasions.
At the time of the application, McDonald’s were tipped as the likely tenant.
The company has some 26 outlets across Northern Ireland and employs more than 2,000 people.
