The pair teamed up to launch the charity’s latest fundraising campaign, ‘BBQ for Cancer Research UK’.

They are calling on men and women across the region to host a BBQ any time this July, or join in the Big BBQ ‘bonanza’ on the weekend of 19-20 July. The aim is to raise money for life-saving research by asking guests to make a donation to attend.

Merlyn was inspired to get involved after hearing about the life-saving work funded by Cancer Research UK in the region.

Merlyn said: “I’m delighted to be a ‘BBQ Hero’ for Cancer Research UK and help promote the charity’s BBQ campaign. We all know that folk love any excuse to bring out the BBQ, whatever the weather, so I hope that friends, families, neighbours and colleagues will come together to get their grill on this July,”

Ethna was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2013. She is determined to rally local people to the cause following her own experience of the disease and her first hand knowledge of the power of research.

“I can’t wait to bring out the BBQ this summer and tell cancer to burger off!” she said. “ I’m passionate about motivating people to unite in the fight against cancer and so I’m thrilled that Merlyn has agreed to be a ‘BBQ Hero’ and help inspire others to get out in the garden and cook up some cash for Cancer Research UK.
