Coagh and Castledawson to host Mid Ulster's Twelfth parades

Orange brethren from East Tyrone and South Londonderry will be celebrating the Twelfth at venues in Coagh and Castledawson .

Upwards of 70 lodges will be on parade in Coagh, representing seven districts, and they will be accompanied by over 50 bands.

Joining Coagh brethren on parade will be Orangemen and women from Stewartstown, Cookstown, Castlecaulfield, Pomeroy, Benburb and Killyman.

The main procession will set off at 12.30pm from the assembly field on the Ruskey Road, before proceeding down Tamlaght Hill, Coagh Bridge and through the village to the demonstration field on the Drumconvis Road.

Among the dignitaries on the day will be the County Tyrone Grand Master, Jim Emery. The guest speaker at the field will be Rev William Anderson, who is the County Armagh Grand Chaplain.

Tamlaghtmore LOL 198 from Coagh District will have their new banner on show as the lodge parades through its home village. Significantly, the banner marks the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

Fourty-five bands and 59 lodges from the eight South Londonderry districts will converge on Castledawson. The demonstration is being hosted by Castledawson District No 1, and organised by Castledawson LOL No 96 and 97.

The main road into Castledawson will close at 11.15am and traffic diversions will be in operation at Castledawson Roundabout and Hillhead. The parade will move off from the Hillhead assembly point at 12 noon.

Castledawson district officers along with county officers will be led by Castledawson Flute Band followed by Castledawson District, Magherafelt, Ballyronan, Moneymore, Tobermore, Tamlaght O’Crilly, Kilrea and Garvagh. The parade will make its way to ‘the Field’ on the Magherafelt Road. A religious service will commence at 2pm and will be conducted by Bro Rev Nigel Kane, district chaplain of Castledawson and chaplain of Curran LOL 121.

He will be assisted by Bro Rev Colin Welshe Chaplain of Castledawson LOL 96 and Rev John Mullan, local Presbyterian minister. The main speaker at the service will be Worshipful Brother Hugh Stewart, County Grand Master of County Londonderry.

The evening parade will leave the field at 3.30pm for the short walk back to the dispersal point at the Hillhead.
