Kyle Simon Marshall (19), of Mullagh Road, Maghera, was also fined a further £25 for having a firework in his possession.

The court heard the offences came to light when police stopped the defendant in a car at Union Road car park, Magherafelt, on the night of January 28.

A prosecuting lawyer said officers noticed a smell of cannabis from the vehicle, and the defendant handed them a clear bag containing a green substance.

She said police then carried out a search of the vehicle and found a firework in the boot.

Counsel for Marshall claimed that the cannabis was for personal use, and the firework was “left over from Halloween” and defendant had forgotten it was in the car.
