Police found cannabis in Maghera man's hoodie

Police found two grammes of herbal cannabis in a hoodie during the search of a Maghera man's home, Magherafelt Magistrates Court was told.

Before the court was William Brownlow (21), unemployed tyre fitter, of Meetinghouse Avenue, who was fined £115 for possessing the drug.

A PPS lawyer said police using a warrant carried out the search while no one was on the premises and seized a number of items, including a small quantity of cannabis.

She said defendant was later spoken to and cautioned and denied having any drugs on the premises, but freely admitted he was a cannabis user.

Defence solicitor Patrick McGucken said the cannabis was in a hoodie and defendant had initially denied it belonged to him because there had been other residents in the house.

Mr McGucken stressed that Brownlow had fully co-operated with police.
