St Mary's Grammar Magherafelt scores top school in Mid Ulster

Named number one, along with four other schools in Northern Ireland, 100 per cent of its pupils took away GCSEs graded between A-C.

The grammar school also took the sixth spot in league tables compiled by the Belfast Telegraph for its A-Level results, with 89% gaining the top grades.

Rainey Endowed School placed twelfth in the GCSE results table with 98.9% of its students attaining grades between A-C at GCSE level.

In eighth position for A-Levels, St Colm’s in Draperstown was the best performing non-grammar school in Northern Ireland, after 88.1% of its students gained three passes, A-C.

Also listed in the top 11 schools was St Patrick’s Academy in Dungannon, placing Mid Ulster District firmly among the heavy weights for A-Level education.

It also came top in County Tyrone.

Other Mid Ulster schools that featured in the top 100 schools in Northern Ireland for A-Level results were Rainey Endowed, Magherafelt (19, 82.1%), The Royal School, Dungannon (39, 74%), St Ciaran’s, Ballygawley (63, 67.3%), St Joseph’s Convent Grammar School, Donaghmore (68, 66.2%), Magherafelt High School (69/ 65.9%), Cookstown High School (70, 65.3%), Fivemiletown College (74, 63.3%), Holy Trinity College, Cookstown (88, 53.8%), St Patrick’s College, Dungannon (96, 51.9%).

Another Mid Ulster school that did well at GCSE, was Carrickmore’s Dean Maguirc College which earned a top placing in the GCSE lists and was named number one non-grammar school in County Tyrone.
