A HUGE scorch-circle, about 30-foot wide and caused by an Eleventh Night bonfire, has incensed residents in Castledawson householder who claimed it will blight children’s play-time over the summer holidays.
When the Mail visited the scene on Tuesday morning, the damage caused by the traditional bonfire was clearly significant.
One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the MAIL that the fire was lit on recreational ground owned by Magherafelt District Council and will “cost some dough to resurface.”
“I’ve no objection to a bonfire being lit, my problem is the location of this bonfire. In previous years, a fire was usually lit on a gravel car park area which is easily cleaned-up.”
“The bonfire was lit near the Riverside area of Castledawson on a football pitch.
“The surface is completely ruined. It’s an eyesore.” he said.
