A PUNTER from Tyrone eager to cash in on the re-sale of free tickets to Radio One’s One Big Weekend music event in Derry has been spotted attempted to flog the goods on ebay with a starting bid of £600.

The free tickets were one of at least ten which sprung up last Wednesday morning (April 17) just hours after they went on release from the Radio One website.

While it’s not known whereabouts in Tyrone the ‘top rated seller’ is from, she does have a 99.5 per cent positive feedback rating.

All of the 37,500 tickets released at 9am were gone in an hour, with thousands of music fans eager to secure a pair of the 12,500 tickets that were released for each of the three days.

Radio One immediately expressed its anger over the resale of tickets for the One Big Weekend on online auction sites such as Ebay, emphasising that tickets re-sold may not be honoured.

Other sellers were attempting to flog pairs of tickets for up to £1000 last Wednesday, with one pair starting at £108,000, thought to be a Derry resident angry at people trying to cash in on the event in their city.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend Derry~Londonderry 2013 takes place over the spring Bank Holiday weekend (May 24 to 26).

In line with previous Big Weekends, Derry residents were given preference for tickets: 45 per cent of the available tickets were reserved for those living within the City Council area, 45 per cent were set aside for those resident in the rest of Northern Ireland, with the remaining 10 per cent for additional audiences across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Ben Cooper, Controller of BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra said it was great to see the enthusiasm and excitement in the city for BBC Radio 1‘s biggest event of the year.

“We will be bringing some of the biggest DJs and artists in the world and demand has been huge, so I’m sorry if you didn’t get a ticket. You will though be able to catch all the action on Radio 1, BBC Three, on mobile and our website,” he added.

Two Door Cinema Club and chart-topping Olly Murs are already confirmed to play with the rest of the line-up to be announced shortly.
