Mid Ulster MLA Sandra Overend, said she fears the DUP’s Health Minister Edwin Poots is deciding on a U-turn over the Police and Fire training college at Desertcreat.
Construction work had been due to start on the site outside Cookstown next month [October].
“I am concerned that nearly two years down the line from Desertcreat being given the green light, and nearly ten years on from the initial announcement of the project, we appear to be no closer to being given a start date for the commencement of construction,” she said.
Mrs Overend, said if the impasse continues the entire tender process would have to start again, with more expense to the taxpayer.
In an earlier response to comments made by Cookstown councillor Trevor Wilson, the Health Minister said: “Whilst there has been significant work undertaken to identify and reduce the cost overrun, this has taken time and has caused some delay to the project.
“My officials have concluded their review of the NIFRS element of this business case and I am now considering their advice.”
