Public’s views wanted on draft masterplan

RESIDENTS and traders of Cookstown have been urged to air their views on the draft masterplan for the town’s future.

A six week public consultation was launched by Social Development Minister, Mr Nelson McCausland.

The draft Masterplan proposals focus on seven key targets:

Enhancement of Town Centre Retail Opportunities

Maximise the promotion and marketing of Cookstown Town

Improve the townscape quality

Better permeability and accessibility

Increase footfall and the vitality of Cookstown Town Centre

Increase job opportunities and improve quality of life

Expand and fully utilise the Town Centre in the future

Minister Nelson McCausland, MLA said: ‘The draft Masterplan is a boost for Cookstown Town Centre.”

Councillor Sean Clarke, Chairman of Cookstown District Council said: “The new Town Centre Masterplan will be a strategic document which will provide the basis for future decision making of key agencies responsible for urban regeneration and town centre management initiatives over the next 10-15 years.”

Plans will be on display from Tuesday 31 May 2011 to Friday 15 July 2011 at the Burnavon Arts & Cultural Centre. Members of the public are invited to view the proposals and to provide feedback using response sheets provided. Comments will be accepted up to and including the closing date of Friday 15 July 2011.
