Pomeroy Players will be marking their 30 year history this year by staging their first ever Martin McDonagh play, ‘The Lonesome West’.

This play is one of the famous McDonagh trilogies that also includes ‘The Beauty Queen Of Leenane’ and ‘A Skull In Connemara’.

Anyone familiar with the works of this author will be aware of his compelling, anarchic and sometimes vicious humour delivered at a frantic, breakneck speed.

The play centres on the household of the Connor brothers, Valene and Coleman played by Plunkett Nugent and Sean Hurson and their extreme love/hate relationship.

Murder, mischief and mayhem abound their lives and even the well intentioned local priest Father Welsh, played by Damien McKiernan, feels let down and useless in his attempt to reconcile these seemingly irreconcilable factions.

The local schoolgirl, Girleen, played by Shauna Gourley, seems to talk more sense than any of them. But then again, she does have a weekly poitin run which would endear most people to her wily charms.

The action and dialogue is both fast and furious with plenty of laughs and thrills along the way.

The production will be on in St. Mary’s Hall, Pomeroy on Thursday 27th February, Friday 28 February and Sunday 1 March. Curtain up each night at 8pm sharp.

The group will then embark on their usual festival run which will see them competing at Enniskillen, Strabane, Castleblaney and Mid Ulster Festivals.

Please come along on one of the Pomeroy nights to support and encourage the group and help them celebrate their 30 year longevity.

Many thanks are due to all those kind patrons, actors, stage helpers and of course the audience who have played a crucial role in getting the group to their Pearl anniversary.
