A RETIRED schoolteacher has appeared at East Tyrone Magistrates Court charged with four counts of gross indecency with a child, four counts of indecent assault on a male, buggery with a boy under 16 and attempted buggery.
Francis Burke, 78, whose address was given as Presentation Brothers, Glasthule, Co Dublin was charged with the offences which relate to incidents which are alleged to have taken place between 1st January 1990 and 31st December 1991.
The investigating officer present in court said she believed she could connect the accused with the charges against him.
A defence solicitor for Mr Burke asked the investigating officer to confirm to the court that his client had vehemently denied all charges during questioning to which the investigating officer confirmed he had.
Mr Burke was released on court bail and asked to sign his own bail of £500.
He was ordered by Deputy District Judge Broderick that while on bail he was subject to a number of restrictions. He is not to have any contact with children under the age of 16 or any witnesses in the case, he is to reside at Presentation Brothers, Dublin and also not to have any contact with anyone at St Patrick’s Primary School, Dungannon.
He was ordered to return to East Tyrone Magistrates Court on 4th August.
