COOKSTOWN Youth Choir is going from strength to strength thanks to support from Cookstown Rotary Club. The Club recently funded the choir to record a CD titled “Voices Together” which has proved extremely successful.
The Rotary Club agreed to fund the production of the CD in return for some of the proceeds of the sales of the CD.
Sales of the CD exceeded over £4,000 and Cookstown Youth Choir recently presented Cookstown Rotary Club with a cheque for £1,450, from the proceeds of their concert in the Burnavon Theatre, which will be donated to good causes by the Club.
Mrs Meta Bell MBE, Musical Director of Cookstown Youth Choir paid tribute to Cookstown Rotary Club for their support in the project, “Without the financial support of Cookstown Rotary Club, it would not have been possible to make the CD. We really appreciate the support and encouragement from the Club. The CD has highlighted the Musical Talent of our young people from across the community and has received many favourable comments from Cookstown and beyond.”
“The members of the choir have gained so much from this experience and it has been a wonderful opportunity for them. In fact, as a result of producing “Voices Together”, the choir have been invited to be part of a 500 Voice Choir accompanied by The National Youth Orchestra to celebrate the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will be held in the Titanic Quarter on Saturday 21 July 2012 and we are delighted with the recognition the Choir has received following release of the CD.
Again, our thanks go to Cookstown Rotary Club for their help and assistance.”
Cookstown Rotary Club President Dr. Isaac Thompson said, “We were approached by Cookstown Youth Choir in 2011 in order to fund the publication of the CD. The Club had no hesitation in supporting the project given that the main aim was to promote the musical talents of our young people locally. We are delighted that the CD has proved to be such a success and we wish the Choir continued success in the future.”
