The Bellaghy father-of-three has represented the Moyola ward since 2005 and his recent move to the Assembly was strongly criticized by local Unionist politicians.
The DUP’s Ian McCrea and the UUP’s Sandra Overend condemned Sinn Fein for promoting a man who was once dubbed one of ‘the three most wanted.’
At the monthly meeting of the council this week the Sinn Fein Chairperson Councillor Catherine Elattor announced that Patricia Smyth would be replacing Mr Milne.
She wished the new member all the best for the future.
