SOLAR lighting has been installed at the back of Tesco in Cookstown following a campaign by the local community group.
Welcoming the decision, DUP MLA Ian McCrea thanked Tesco for installing the solar powered lighting to the exterior fence behind the store.
Councillor McCrea said: “This comes following a request by representatives of Cookstown North Community Group to get some type of lights installed along the footpath beside Millburn Close due to people from the local area feeling unsafe and also to try to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.
“I would like to thank Hazel McKenzie a member of the community group who kept this issue on the agenda and I also want to thank Colin Hampsey from Tesco’s in Cookstown for realising the needs of the local community and agreeing to install these much needed lights.”
Pat Scullion, Store Manager of Tesco Cookstown said: “Being a good neighbour is an integral part of how we run and operate our stores. This issue had been a concern for local residents and I am delighted that this installation of lighting at the rear of the store will help reduce any fears that they may have had.”
