SINN Féin councillor for Magherafelt Peter Bateson has welcomed the extension of the restricted speed zone to now include both St Trea’s and Anahorish Primary Schools and a further commitment for a 50 meter footpath extension to the bus shelter at Island Hill.
Councillor Peter Bateson commented: “It’s good to see the commitment given to these works, they have been a cause of serious concern for local residents as it is a serious issue for the safety of children of the area.
“Local people have been rightly frustrated and angered at the delay in having these works carried out on this dangerous stretch of road.
“I would just hope that the urgency of this work is recognised and will now be completed without any further delay. I would also appeal to drivers to adhere to the new speed restriction and be considerate of the safety of local people and particularly children.”
