Suspended jail term for Moneymore man

A MONEYMORE man who was said by the District Judge to have 47 previous convictions, was given a four-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

Dermott Thomas Bell (23), of Smith Street, admitted assaulting two men and damaging a door belonging to Bryson’s Bar, Magherafelt, on October 31 2010.

A PPS lawyer said the defendant was identified as one of a group of people taking part in the assaults outside the bar in the early hours of the morning.

He said the defendant was also interviewed in relation to kicking the punching the door of the premises.

A defence barrister stressed that the incident was now of some vintage and Bell had stayed out of trouble.

District Judge Des Perry warned Bell that he continued to offend he would serve the sentence.
