SMILES volunteer Sydney Collins, from Magherafelt, is taking another much-needed consignment of food and clothes to aid children and the elderly in Romania over the summer.

Sydney who described his recent visit to the orphanage for homeless children in the former communist-state as “very tough”, said he was preparing a container to leave Ballymena on July 30.

If you have clothes suitable for babies or the elderly you can contact him and have arranged for them to be collected. Alternatively you can make a financial donation. Contact Sydney on 07971872703.

“Everything that is donated goes to helping people who have nothing,” he said. “All donations will be gratefully received and put to good use.”

Sydney has been to Romania several times for the Christian charity which has invested heavily in the country.

Recently he was part of a 26-strong party who were involved with working at the orphanage and on the organisation’s new building the Joint Facility of Love - for the elderly and children with disabilities.
