It was reported to police that sometime between 6am and 12pm a white Volkswagen Caddy van was broken into and a Mikiti drill and an Ozone generator stolen.

Constable Megarity said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything suspicious, or anyone who has information about this incident, to contact Police at Cookstown on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 451 of 29/11/2016.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the Independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Just last week, Mid Ulster Councillor Malachy Quinn urged users of the facility to be vigilant after receiving reports of vans being broken into and valuables being stolen.

He said: "I have a received a number of disturbing reports about break-ins happening at the Park and the Ride at Tamnamore Roundabout with where a number of valuables and tools have been stolen.

"The tools especially were worth quite a bit of money and I want to warn anyone who parks there during the day to make sure that their vehicle is securely locked and that all valuables are out of sight.

"The Park and ride is used by hundreds of people every day going to work and by those who get the bus to Belfast but it’s important that people keep and look out and report anything suspicious to the PSNI."

He went on to say that he has asked for CCTV to be installed at the site to alleviate the worry of users.

A member of the public contacted this paper in September to highlight the problem, and said that he knew of at least 10 instances of thefts from vehicles parked there.

He said: "It's shocking. My friend's van got broken into today (Sep 27) at it and a few plumbers I know have had their vans completely emptied."

He too urged the installation of CCTV at the site.
