The Christmas Festival at the Market yard in Magherafelt on the 30th November and 1st December is set to grow to new heights this year with the onset of a New Year / New Dish cook-off between seven well know local restaurants and food companies.
Visitors to the event will have the pleasure of seeing new dishes cooked in-front of them and tasting the results.
Mr Nick Lestas of Lestas Consulting said “The seven companies involved in the cook-off are Indian Nights Inn, Mary’s Bar, Apparo Restaurant, Gardiners Restaurant, The Elk, Bryson’s Bar and Sizzlers Restaurants.
Each restaurant has been allocated a time slot in which they will demonstrate a newly prepared dish that represents their chef’s culinary skills and promotes their individual brand.
The event will showcase the variety and quality of food the area has to offer with many of the dishes being prepared from local produce grown in the region.”
Chairperson of Magherafelt District Council Cllr Catherine Elattar stated “This type of cook-off along with the enthusiasm shown by the local chefs to be involved demonstrates the standard and quality of the region when it comes to local food.
“The event is set to enhance the festival and more importantly highlight to the public where they can go in the New Year to continue supporting the local food industry that is growing into such an important part of the local economy.”
The New Year / New Dish cook-off is a part of the Magherafelt Food Business Development Programme which is fully funded by Magherafelt District Council, Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.
