This Christmas will see Translink, Northern Ireland’s Public Transport Provider, introduce ‘more discounted fares than ever’ to ensure shoppers and commuters can make their all-important journeys over the festive period.
With a host of network-wide fare reductions in Cookstown and across Northern Ireland, people can enjoy the prospect of seeing family, friends and work colleagues without the worry of driving and car parking.
Generous discounts all-day-long will be rolled out across all services, including free returns on Goldline and Ulsterbus services available from November. In addition to this, Translink has committed to introducing an enhanced timetable with extended hours, ensuring all journeys are checked-off people’s Christmas travel list.
Talking about the exciting range of fare promotions and additional services, Ciaran McHugh, Assistant Service Delivery Manager at Translink said:
“We are working closely with Mid Ulster District Council and partners to support the local retail and hospitality sector, in Cookstown and surrounding areas. We have a range of fare promotions to encourage shoppers, commuters and families to ditch the car and enjoy a festive day out in the area.
“For anyone planning to Christmas shop or visit friends, we’re offering a day return for the same price as a single across Northern Ireland on our Goldline and Ulsterbus services after 9.30am from now until 31st December 2016. And for families looking for a fun day out, our Family and Friends ticket offers one day’s unlimited travel for up to two adults and four children across all services on weekdays after 9.30am and no time restrictions for Saturdays and Sundays(for £22) and from 17th December 2016 – 2nd January 2017 for the reduced fare of £15.
“For commuters travelling to Belfast, we’re offering a 1/3 off our 6.10am Goldline service from Cookstown (Service 209).
“These are just some of the offers this Christmas, so we encourage everyone to visit our website for more details. It is our goal to help passengers across Cookstown and Northern Ireland enjoy a wonderful holiday season on-board our buses, trains and coaches. With our range of fares this Christmas, we know our passengers will enjoy a bit more cash in their pockets for the important shopping!”
Encouraging people to travel with Translink, Councillor Trevor Wilson said: “Mid Ulster District Council is delighted to partner with Translink to launch this festive travel campaign, and we would encourage everyone to give public transport a go when travelling to local events and attractions over the Christmas season.
“This is a particularly important campaign given the economic importance of the Christmas period for local businesses. And with increased capacity, enhanced services and a range of cost reductions across the network, there’s never been a better time to hop on board the bus or train, to shop and socialise locally this Christmas.”
