Upperlands’ kids recreate village in mural

A mural designed by children from Ampertaine Primary School in Upperlands depicting what the village means to them, has been officially unveiled.

The local Community Development group decided to approach the school to see if a selection of children would be willing to help with the design of the mural with funding from Ann Marie McStocker, CWSAN.

The 17 children, aged between eight and 14 year put pencils to paper and came up with mural which has been put on display in the Old Mill Coffee Shop.

A spokesperson for the Community Development group said: “We had some great drawings and ideas which local Graphic Designer Fiona Stewart, from Bohemian Tree Design, put together to create the 10ft x 5ft Mural of Upperlands.

“This design will be used on all the Coffee Shop’s future marketing materials. It was launched last Thursday when the designer children and parents got to see the mural first.

“Thanks to the 17 children involved Amy McCombe, Caitlin Proctor, Kerry Gordon, Jamie Gordon, Michael Lynn, Leah Watt, Joseph McGonigle, Charlotte McGonigle, Jordan Peeples, Katie Mitchell, Karla Mitchell, Dylan Wilson, Morgan Lowry, Adele Getty, Adam Nelson, Ethan Nelson and Josh Nelson without them the Mural would not have been possible.”

The Mural of Upperlands is on show in the back room in The Old Mill Coffee Shop, 73 Kilrea Road, Upperlands, BT46 5RN so why not call in to see it and have your lunch or a tasty treat, the coffee shop is open Monday - Friday 9.30am - 4.30pm and Saturday 10am - 4pm.
