NAMED as a torch-bearer in the Mid Ulster Mail in December, ‘Future Flame’ Aymen McGonigle has learnt he will be carrying the Olympic Torch through Derry-Londonderry.
The list of torchbearers has been finalised and Aymen, will be taking part in the torch relay on Monday 4 June in Derry-Londonderry.
The sixteen-year-old was chosen as one of CocaCola’s ‘Future Flames’; extraordinary young people who have a passion and dedication in sport, music, dance or involvement with the community or environment.
Aymen, a pupil of Rainey Endowed, has been a downhill mountain bike enthusiast for two years – in this period he has built his own bike and his own racing track in his hometown of Upperlands. He also does all his ownrepairs, mechanics and fixes other people’s bikes – all of which he taught himself. Speaking to the MAIL, he said: “I’m really excited. I can’t wait and I’m so pleased CocaCola chose me as a ‘Future Flame’, I’m really looking forward to carrying the torch.”
