A former Magherafelt Sinn Fein councillor told PSNI officers he would have them shot, after he was arrested for alleged motoring offences.
Sean Kerr, from Maghera appeared before Limavady Magistrates Court on Wednesday to face a number of charges including resisting and assaulting police on October 29 last year.
The court heard that Kerr shouted “I’m going to have you f**kers shot” at police officers in his cell.
He was taken to the cell, after he began shouting and swearing at police when asked to have his fingerprints taken.
The former councillor, says he couldn’t remember the incident. His barrister said Mr Kerr had consumed alcohol prior to police coming to arrest him.
He was sentenced to 140 hours community service, after the district judge took into account his guilty plea and apology to police officers after the assault.
