Charlie - a chocolate brown labrador from Moneymore - has been crowned Northern Ireland’s top dog in the Brandy Dog Photographic Competition.

But when owner Alison Smyth brought Charlie to the Mid Ulster Mail office in Cookstown to collect his hamper of Brandy treats, the star of the show came over all camera-shy.

Charlie was not only voted as winner of the Mid Ulster Mail and Tyrone Times competition, but also clinched the overall title in the competition running in Johnston Press newspapers across Northern Ireland.

“He’s a hyperactive big nut” laughed Alison, who wins a Stena Ferryline crossing for capturing the winning photograph of the elusive Charlie.
