A MAJOR police investigation was continuing in Maghera after a gang armed with a gun and knife tied up the occupants of house along the main Tobermore Road.
The robbery happened on Wednesday evening at around 8.45pm.
On Thursday, a large team of forensics combed the area around the property while officers conducted door to door enquiries.
The gang stole cash and items from the house, before driving off in the owner’s car, which was later found brunt out in Castledawson
Local councillor Sean Kerr said the fact that the robbery had taken place in a very public location was more worrying.
“This is shocking, it is something which has not happened around here for some time, and there are reports that a house in Swatragh was targeted earlier in the evening.
“The police are treating this very seriously, but it is a real concern when you hear of guns and weapons.”
Mr Kerr said he knew the owner of the house, describing him as a very decent and hard working local businessman.
