MAGHERAFELT DUP Councillor Anne Forde has welcomed Roads Service plans to extend the park and ride facility at Castledawson Roundabout.
Work is expected to get underway in the near future on the facility which is widely used by motorists computing to Belfast and elsewhere.
The park and ride currently has 79 parking spaces with disabled facilities and these are expected to be increased.
Councillor Forde pointed out that Magherafelt Council had lobbied for the extension which she described as “a fantastic amentity.”
She pointed out that in the current economic climate many motorists were saving money by using the facility and travelling on by bus to work.
“The additional parking will be very welcome,” she said. “Constituents have told me that they use it because of the cost of fuel and convenience. Students in particular make great use of it.”
