White Collar Boxing comes to Town

Fancy a Fight?

If so, one of the UK and Ireland’s largest White Collar Boxing Events is coming to Cookstown.

N.I Live Events are proud to announce that they are bringing their White Collar Boxing event to Cookstown for the first time ever in April of next year. Training will commence in early March with registration via their website www.niliveevents.com.

One of the oldest most famous boxing gyms in America is Gleason’s Gym, New York City. The story goes that some years ago two Wall Street business types who both fancied themselves as fighters. They had a bet on who would be still standing if they went three rounds in the ring at the local boxing gym. They employed trainers and set about preparing for this showdown. Almost six months later they finally ‘got it on’ at Gleason’s in front of a big crowd of colleagues and friends. As it turned out, neither had particularly much in the way of pugilistic skills so they both walked away unscathed and with pride intact.

This will be NI Live Events 1st Boxing event in Cookstown. Their previous events have sold out in less than 32 minutes, had over 30,000 online hits and have raised a massive £60,000 for charities in just 13 months.

Training

Training will take place over 6 weeks starting in early March. We have teamed up with one of the best gyms in the country, the DOJO in Cookstown, based in Union Street. For our events we will only ever use the best trainers available. There are two reasons for this: the best trainers produce the best fighters and they also produce the safest fighters. We take the health and safety of all our competitors very seriously, and by using the best trainers we know our competitors will be trained to a level that they can take part and not put anyone at risk.

Competitors will undergo rigorous training and participate in refereed bouts of three one and a half minute rounds. 16 ounce gloves, head guards, mouth guards and groin protectors are used for these bouts. Each fight is organized so that no one will get embarrassed in the ring and that each fighter will have as much chance of winning as the other. Anyone who steps into the ring is most certainly a ‘winner’.

The participants, whilst raising money for the charity, will be trained for a period of six weeks by the DOJO. All participants will have undergone a full medical and will be paired up and pitted against each other in the ring on the big fight night at Sense Night Club. MC for the night is ‘Jedi’ Jim Eastwood from BBC1’s Apprentice.

Joe Hagan The DOJO Cookstown said “At the Dojo we are excited to be getting involved with the team at NI Live Events in their latest fundraising event. On witnessing the exceptional event ran at their last white collar boxing show and seeing the positive outcome it had with the charities involved as well as the progress all the competitors had improving fitness, weight loss and learning new skills we are delighted to be coming on-board”.

To take part you must be over 18, fighting for a local business, pay a training fee, raise some money for charity and pass a medical with your own GP.
