World Culture Day coming to Cookstown

Yet another brand new event for Cookstown will take place at the Burnavon Arts & Cultural Centre on Saturday 17th May, when a celebration of World Culture Day between 11am and 3pm will bring Burn Road to life in an explosion of colour, music and rhythm for everyone to enjoy.

Central to the spectacle of course will be music. You can expect to see street performances from a Chinese Dragon, from African Drummers and a Dhol Player, as well as an amazing Samba Band.

A little closer to home, we also look forward to hearing from our own Cookstown Folk Club, with their unique Irish, Scottish and Bluegrass programme of tunes and songs.

As no party is complete without dancing, you can also take in performances from Polish, Bollywood and Salsa dance groups - and once you have seen how it is done, you are invited to give it a go yourself at one of the participative workshops on offer.

Alongside the entertainment taking place both outside and inside the Burnavon throughout the day there will also be arts and crafts sessions for all to enjoy.

Expert artists will be on hand to give you the opportunity to try something really new and really different with a fantastic range of Polish, Chinese, Romanian, Latin American and Indian art forms.

We are delighted that World Culture Day will also feature martial arts demonstrations from members of Cookstown Mugendo Club – perhaps the one activity we won’t invite you to get involved in – this one is probably best left to the experts!

Last but not least, you can also take in few tastes of the world from local food producers offering samples of their Chinese and Indian cuisine.

World Culture Day on Saturday 17th May, 11 am to 3pm promises to be a fantastic, fun event and it’s all free! So bring the whole family along and plan to stay around for a while, so you don’t miss a thing!

For more information on this special event contact the Burnavon Box Office on 028 8676 9949 and keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter.

Please note Burn Road will be closed to through traffic from the main street to the entrances to Supervalu and Burn Road car parks from 10 am to 4pm on Saturday 17th May 2014.
