Ulster Unionists Sandra Overend MLA and Jim Nicholson MEP have paid tribute to the Maghera Local Committee for Cancer Research UK following their successful ‘Big Breakfast’ held at Walsh’s Hotel in the town.

“I would like to pay tribute to Maghera Committee Chairperson Violet Phillips and her team for another phenomenally successfully Big Breakfast, which is the largest in the UK.” she said.

“It was great to be able to host my Ulster Unionist colleague Jim Nicholson MEP in Mid-Ulster last week. Jim visited numerous local businesses and attended a number of events, but none more important than this one, and I know he welcomed the opportunity to support the Maghera Local Committee in their fundraising efforts.

“Cancer Research UK is a wonderful charity, and the work which they carry out is at the heart of the progress which means more people than ever are now beating cancer.

Mr Nicholson added: “I was delighted to be able to attend this fantastic event. I travel right across Northern Ireland and visit all kinds of business and organisations, but truly believe that raising funds and awareness for charities such as Cancer Research is one of the most important things I can do in my role as an MEP.

“I would like to thank the organisers, not only for such a warm welcome and a delicious breakfast, but for the work they do throughout the year. I would also like to congratulate them for raising more than £10,000 on the day, a tremendous amount of money for such a worthwhile cause.”
