First Steps Women’s Centre (FSWC), based at William Street, Dungannon offer an extensive range of excellent programmes promoting education and training for women.

Courses at First Steps range from Numeracy and Literacy to Computerised Sage Accounts Level 1 and 2 as well as other IT courses ranging from Beginners I.T. to Advanced ECDL.

There are also a number of Health Promotion Courses such as Wellbeing Techniques, The Confidence Booster and Dressing on a Budget. Registration is now open for courses in September 2014 as well as the Spring Classes which are on offer.

The warm and friendly atmosphere provided at First Steps Women’s Centre makes it the perfect place for training and education as well as meeting and interacting with people from all walks of life.

On completion of one of the I.T courses at the Centre, one woman commented: “Honestly I couldn’t say a negative thing about the course. Truly enjoyed it, as for the staff and the Women’s Centre, they are all so warm, friendly and naturally take away any nerves.”

The Centre not only provide a great range of courses but they also offer a number of services to assist women as they carry out their training.

Support services are available through their on-site counsellor as well as childcare facilities so children are supported in a happy, safe environment while their mums participate in the courses.

The Crèche on site at the centre has two bi-lingual assistants and over nine different nationalities attending.

The First Steps Women’s Centre also offer a free Benefits Checker service working with Dungannon CAB to assist both males and females, inquiries can be made via telephone or by calling into the centre.

Up until end of February 2014, First Steps Women’s Centre service has successfully identified over £100k in extra benefit entitlement for people and that figure is constantly rising.
