DESERTMARTIN stretched their unbeaten run to nine games after a hard fought victory over Dunloy at Dromore Park.

The local side should have taken the lead in the opening minute when a Mark Shiels chip on the Dunloy keeper failed.

Th
e visitors went into the lead in the fifth minute when Ben McGarry converted a penalty kick. Soon after Mark Junkin brought the Desert level when he scored from the spot after Colin Overend was upended as he was baring down on goal.

John McAlease put Dunloy back in the lead again with a free kick just outside the box.

After the interval Dunloy increased their lead when Ben McCarry rounded the keeper to tap in.

Adrian Thompson reduced the arrears for Desertmartin with a good solo run leaving the Dunloy keeper helpless.

Chances were missed at both ends before the youngster Aaron Campbell secured maximum points for Desert.

On Thursday evening of last week, Desertmartin travelled to Cookstown Olympic.

A late goal by Colin Overend gave the Desert a share of the spoils and keeps them in contention for a top six finish, which is encouraging as the Desert were in the bottom three at Christmas.

Desertmartin’s next two games are against Connor tonight (Thursday). KO 6.45 and Raceview, Saturday KO 2pm. Both games at Dromore Park.
