Ballymoney United 6
THINGS appear to be getting worse for bottom of the league Moyola Park as their disastrous season lurches from one humiliating defeat to another.
Saturday’s final scoreline reads bad enough but Ballymoney could have bagged a
t least another ten if their finishing touches hadn’t let them down.
Schoolboy international Adam McKinney missed four clear chances before he banged home the opener after just eight minutes.
McKinney kept his head to calmly drill home from 18-yards out giving keeper Martin Rea no chance.
Moyola should have been back on equal terms on 15 minutes but Brian Martin’s weak penalty kick was easily palmed wide at the far post by keeper Simon Smyth.
Ballymoney upped the pressure and Mark Surgenor headed home his first of the match in the 27th minute from a McKinney cross.
The home side pulled one back on 36 minutes when Lee Workman latched on to a poor clearance by the keeper to blast into the net.
The visitors continued to threaten in the second half with Surgenor going close twice with close range efforts.
Moyola suffered a devastating blow in the 63rd minute when Brian Martin got his marching orders following an midfield exchange of words with a Ballymoney striker.
Reduced to 10 men the home side struggled to keep the visitors at a bay as they pressed forward.
Ballymoney’s Aiden O’Kane had a goal disallowed before David Nicholl headed in on 71 minutes from a high cross into the goal area.
Substitute Gareth McLaughlin scored a superb goal from close range after rounding a few defenders during his free run down the left wing.
Surgenor hit his second of the match in the 86th minute when he latched on to a through ball and fired into the corner of the net.
And he rounded the scoring off a minute into added time with a simple tap-in at the far post.
