Dundela 1
TOBERMORE United picked up three vital end of season points when they completely outclassed high flying Dundela to win 4-1 at Fortwilliam Park on Tuesday night.
It’s the second time this season that the South Derry outfit have beaten
the East Belfast side.
Still reeling from their defeat at the hands of Ballyclare Comrades at the weekend, Tobermore was determined to get something out of the game to stay on course for a top six finishing place in the Irish First Division.
Tuesday’s result means they leapfrog Banbridge Town to take sixth and need to beat Carrick Rangers on Saturday to consolidate their position.
But the home side got off to a terrible start on Tuesday, conceding a silly goal just four minutes into the match when Matt Burrows fired in from six yards.
A Stuart McCallum throw-in fell nicely for Paul McLaughlin to left-foot in seven minutes later.
Niall Cooke added a second on 16 minutes when he headed home at the far post a corner cross from Ian Crockett.
Two minutes into the second half a Paul Owens strike was well saved by Duns keeper Tony Miskelly.
Gavin Doherty had an effort cleared off the line by Chris Guiney before he hammered in Tobermore’s third from six-yards.
Owens got on the score sheet in the 76th minute with a superb 25-yard free kick which curled over the wall and into the top corner of the net.
Tobermore United: Hassan, Walsh, McQuillan, Boyle, McCallum, Pattison, Owens, Cooke, McLaughlin, Crockett, Doherty. Subs Lynch, Tosh, Campbell, Lamont.
