FOR the second week in a row the records were broken in Bann Valley club events.
With the time trial last week attracting a record breaking turnout, it was the turn of the racing men (and women) this week with 47 riders signing on to compete in the latest round of the GMC ELECTRICAL league at the ever popular Ballynease course.
The four lap race was set off in five groups.
The first group consisting of only three riders was caught on the first lap with groups two and three coming together on the second lap.
The end of second lap brought the scratch men into contact with the bunch ahead and set up an exciting final lap with only 90 seconds separating the two bunches on the road.
The scratch group made a determined attempt to close the gap and only failed by 25 seconds to get across to the leaders.
The race was won by Ryan McCudden of Phoenix, after a long sprint, two bike lengths ahead of the ever present Jason Henry U/A who just missed out this week, possibly due to the length of the sprint.
Third place was a tighter fight with East Tyrone's George Glendinning just pushing the home clubs' Gerry McCullagh to forth by half a wheel. The remainder of the top ten were Brian McCombe ET, Alan Blair BRC, Gerry Kelly BVRC, Neil Beresford BRC, Trevor Reid BRC,and Jason Bowman ET.
In the Club section Gerry McCullagh was once again the winner with Gerry Kelly second and a determined Alan Donegan taking third, his best club place this season.
Bann Valley was well represented in the Dave Kane TT league at Woodgreen last Thursday 24th July with four members taking part.
This led to PB's from Shane McAteer and Declan Maguire. Congratulations also to two of Bann Valleys associates Trevor Reid and Elle Forrest of BRC who both took excellant PB's from the night.
The annual charity run the Tour of The North Coast is now only a month away.
The event will be on Sunday 31st August at 10am from Portglenone Community Centre. Please note some calendars may give the date as the 24th but this is incorrect.
