KILDRESS brother and sister, Conor and Martina Gilmore, were among the medal winners at the North v South, where Martina won two individual bronze medals and Conor was part of the boy’s team who won a gold medal championship title.
Karate competitors from the four corners of British Isles converged in the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution to win a title in the most prestigious tournament of its kind to be staged in Ireland.
Looking on was the team’s coach and president of karate in Northern Ireland, Oliver Brunton said: “It is great to see all of their training and hard work paying off.
“The two of them are getting a lot of international competition experience, and this is giving them confidence in the tournament arena.
“The North versus South championships has risen to become the most prestigious karate event on the island of Ireland,” he continued.
“It gives our young athletes here a chance to compete against some of the best on the British Isle.”
Kildress Karate Club meets at the Kildress Parish Centre on Tuesday nights, and Cookstown Karate Club trains at Cookstown Leisure Centre on Thursday nights.
