Castledawson seeking big improvement
Senior Football The seniors played Ballinderry on Monday night and lost heavily on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-10. A lot of improvement is required if the team are to progress in the Championship, as well as staying safe in the league.
Good luck to Paul Heaney and the Derry minors who take on Laois this Sunday in the All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park. Throw in is at 1.45pm.
There will be an Executive meeting on Wednesday 22 August at 8.30pm sharp. All to attend.
Following the success of our under 10s in our own blitz last week, the club's underage teams continued to excel and the under 12s and under 14s picked up two more trophies this weekend.
Two teams of Under 14s competed in an all county 7-a-side Blitz at Owenbeg on Sunday 19.
The A team won their 2 league games in Section C very comfortably thus topping their group and meeting Coleraine in the semi final. Castledawson played some fine football but our opponents were more au fait with the tactics needed in 7 a side and a late goal saw us exit the competition on a 2-5 to 2-3 score line. Team: Brian Ludlow, Paul McCoy, Ryan McNally, Nathan Young, Aidan Bradley, Stephen O'Hagan and Ryan McPeake.
The B team easily accounted for Limavady B and Ogramore B to win the D section and collect a fine trophy and medals. Congratulations to Jarleth Gartland, Ryan Heaney, Cormac Martin, Aidan Keenan, Ruairi Glavin, Daryl Mc Killen and Michael McElwee. It's good to see this bunch of young players succeed after a season in which they have made great efforts without always reaping the rewards. Coaching continues Mondays from 6-7pm.
The U12s travelled to Tyrone on Saturday for the annual Clogher blitz.
In the opening round of games, the early rise obviously had an impact as the boys couldn't quite get going. In the league section one win and two 1 point defeats saw the team placed in the semi-final of the Cup competition.
In the semi-final the lads raised their game and recorded a fairly straightforward victory with Danny Devlin bagging a couple of well taken goals.
In the final the boys faced a strong Augher side but with the silverware on view at the side of the pitch the boys turned in a comprehensive performance and ran out comfortable winners. Danny Devlin gratefully accepted the Cup on behalf of the team and Connor Taggart picked up the man of the match award.
Congratulations to all the lads and special mention to Jordan Shivers our player of the tournament.
Team: O Mullan, R Connery, N Keenan, L Doyle, D Devlin, A Keenan, C Taggart, G Chesney, J Shivers, R Kennedy, T Rankin.
Our Under 10s "Go games" had two teams at the All County Blitz at Owenbeg on Friday 17 August. Both teams played some sparkling football in poor weather against Steelstown, Claudy and Desertmartin.
The Castledawson Squad: Frances Connery, Erin McKenna, Fergal McKenna, Aoibheann McElwee, Eimear McElwee, Shane Chesney, Ruairi Keenan, Jason O Hagan, Pierce Loughran, Bridget McMullan, Luke Doyle, Jordan Shivers, Niall Keenan, Rian Connery, Conor McCann, Ryan Kennedy and Cara O Hagan .
Coaching for our underage footballers continues every Tuesday (6.15 – 7.15 pm).

Coaching continues Mondays from 6-7pm

Underage - the U6s played their first tournament of the year at Newbridge on Saturday past. With the help of four players from Bellaghy, Castledawson battled well against Newbridge and Slaughtneil but were beaten in both matches by one goal.
For Castledawson, we had Rachael Doyle in goals, lily Keenan and Ellie Doyle brilliant in defence clearing everything that came their way, Claire Kearns worked like a wee Trojan in midfield and up front, Gemma Doyle, Melissa Gallagher and Anna Kelly tried their hardest to get the scores.
The girls showed great determination in both matches and showed that they are the future stars of St Malachy's. A special word of thanks to the Bellaghy girls Roisin, Abigail, Aoife and Tamier who joined ranks for the day.
