The final fixture of the social season for Cookstown Hockey Club took place last Friday evening in the form of the Annual General Meeting at the Clubhouse.
The event, which gives registered members of the club an opportunity to vote for their office elect for the incoming season, was well attended by both seasoned committee veterans and younger members of the club.
After much consideration and debate regarding the use of the club’s constitution, the following members were elected as representatives for the 2014/15 season:
President: Michael Millar
Hon. Vice-President: Carole Hodgett
Vice-Chairperson: Carole Hodgett
Hon. Secretary: Paula Black
Men’s Match Secretary: Ian Hagan
Ladies Match Secretary: TBC
Club PRO: Jonathan Ames
Youth Liaison Officers: Tim Anderson and Raymond Miller
Club Captain: Andrew Barbour
Committee: Stephen Cuddy, Linda Black, Keith Rollins, Billy Barbour, Alistair Donaldson, Malcolm McWhirter, Desmond McCrea, Paul Morrow, David Atkinson, Brian Simpson.
The hockey club would like to offer congratulations and thanks to those returning and newly elected members of the committee and wish them good luck for the following season.
Aside from the politics of the club, the Cookstown Hockey Club spotlight is currently shining on a duo not yet willing to finish their playing season: veterans Philip Barbour and Michael Millar are currently preparing to jet off to Rotterdam in the Netherlands to compete in the Masters World Cup for the Irish Over 40s and Over 45s respectfully.
“Both teams have been training hard and playing well throughout practice games,” said Cookstown HC’s re-elected President Michael Millar ahead of the big occasion. “The weather in Rotterdam looks to be in the high twenties which should be a challenge to play in.”
Philip, older brother of former Irish international Andrew Barbour, has just turned 40 and will therefore be one of the youngest men on the Irish 40s squad.
“I don’t think Philly has been called a youngster for around twenty years so I’m sure he will definitely be making the most of it!” Michael joked. “We are both looking forward to it and are hoping for a great tournament.”
