Cookstown will have two representatives on the senior Ulster squad for this weekend’s interprovincial series being played at Pembroke Wanderers’s ground in Dublin.
Keeper Ian Hughes and defender Ewan Butler are both included in a great Ulster squad who go to Leinster as favourites following a successful year for Ulster clubs who lifted both the Irish Senior Cup and Irish Hockey League.
Hughsie has had a great season with the Reds and was outstanding in the Senior Cup final where he was unlucky not to get man of the match. However, he was the voted Cookstown Supporters’ Player of the Year at a recent awards ceremony.
Ewan has been Mr Efficient as usual, going about his work on the pitch without any fuss. He has built up a reputation as a man marker and kept Peter Caruth quiet in the Senior Cup semi-final. He then did a similar job on Monkstown’s Gareth Watkins in the final. Ulster coach Drew Campbell may well employ Ewan in this type of role against the talented Leinster and Munster forwards.
Ulster v Munster (5pm Saturday)
Ulster v Leinster (4pm Sunday)
The Reds will be further represented as past Club Captain Ricky McGaw will be head coach of Ulster juniors.
The junior inter-pros will take place at Three Rock Rovers’ ground at Grange Road and will be played over Saturday only.

The club would like to wish the guys all the best over the week-end.
