Donnelly Moyola angling winner

THE annual Glenview Perpetual Cup competition organised by Moyola Angling Club, was held in much better conditions for the fly fishing enthusiasts.

In first place, and securing an initial win for the season with a good trout measuring some 13 inches, was Seamus Donnelly.

Second went to Tommy McGrath while third on the night came Patsy Harkin. However, it was noted that there was a disappointing turnout of junior members for this Moyola River event.

As a result, the merit league table has changed yet again. Top placings now are ; Tommy McGrath, 38pts ; Philip Maguire, 37pts ; Stanley Aspinall, 34pts; Joey O’Neill, 32pts; Adrain McKay, 25pts ; Brian Bigmore, 24pts; Patsy Harkin and Seamus Donnelly, 22pts.

Gratitude is expressed to all those who turned up at the hatchery where a lot of work was carried out with a digger which was organised by Michael Brunton. Thanks to Michael and all the “old faithfuls ” who worked extremely hard on what was a very warm day. The next club competition is for the Wilbert Pickering Cup on Monday evening , June 7. All those wishing to take part, are asked to meet at the Moyola Bridge, Castledawson, in time for a 7pm start.

Finally, local enthusiasts may like to note that Irelands only fly tieing festival known as The Irish International Fly Fair, will be held in Killyleagh on July 3-4.
