After his epic battle a fortnight ago against top American Keith Hernandez, Clonoe’s 67kg boxer Fergal McCrory boxed his way to next Friday’s Ulster Intermediate Final in the Dockers Club Belfast.
McCrory had a comprehensive 26-13 points win over the durable Jack Scally from Dungloe Boxing Club.
It was a toe to toe battle in the first round with the Clonoe Boxer whipping in some powerful body punches that took its toll on the Dungloe Boxer.
As the bout progressed, McCrory ended the round with a seven point advantage. It was much of the same in round 2 and with a healthy lead of 21-9 points McCrory could afford to move and jab.
He now meets Niall McFeely from St Canice’s Dungiven in the final.
After the terrific night’s boxing the club wish to thank all who helped in making it a great success - Cookstown District Council, the staff of the Glenavon House Hotel, Colette and Kevin of Coalisland Parochial Centre, all our sponsors, our MC Mr. Jim Noonan, who has been a great friend of our club over the years, and Aidan Fitzgerald of Derrytresk GFC for the use of their mini bus in transporting the American team.
