Cookstown Celtic returned to league action on Saturday when they hosted Moira Albion and came away with all the points after a resounding victory.
Celtic began with their usual passing style of football but couldn’t create any early chances while their defence had to deal with a lot of high balls as the visitors tried to use their significant height advantage. Celtic soon began to dominate the game and had chances to take the lead through Maguire and O’Neill. Celtic did take the lead midway through the half with a fine flowing move. Harley won the ball in defence and found Muldoon in midfield whose run and pass found O’Hare on the right hand side, O’Hare slipped the ball into the path of the onrushing Hughes whose pin point crossed found McOscar who expertly guided the ball into the corner of the net. Celtic had further chances to stretch their lead but couldnt find the net before the half time whistle. Celtic doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when a delightful through ball from Muldoon found O’Neill who rounded the keeper and slotted into the net. This setback seemed to spark Moira into action and the Celtic defence had to be sharp to thwart several Moira attacks. The game was put beyond doubt when Celtic scored their third when Maguire cleverly found O’Hare in the box and he made no mistake as he blasted past the keeper giving him no chance. Celtic were now knocking the ball about with ease and got their fourth when Maguire beat several players in the box and his shot was diverted into the net by McCloskey. Celtic should have increased the winning margin with several good chances but there were no more goals registered before the final whistle.
